Pomodoro is a time management technique. It breaks down a task into intervals of 25 minutes using a timer. This technique is used to improve productivity by keeping track of distractions while working, and minimizing them. By dividing work into small focused sessions with short breaks, this technique helps to stay focused and eliminates mental fatigue.

3 lessons from the book “The Pomodoro Technique” are:

  1. Chunk your work so you won’t drown in it.
  2. Use physical stimuli to develop flow and focus.
  3. Commit to each Pomodoro as if you’re getting married.

I got to experience this technique through Amal fellowship. It was a good experience. I decided to complete an online course in 2 hours. I set the timer to 25 mins and started my work. Whenever the timer rang I would put a star on paper. After 4 stars, 1 hour completed, there was no distraction, everything went smoothly and I completed almost half of my course.

Usually, I often get distracted. But this time as I was using this technique, I subconsciously took it as a challenge to complete my task within time and because of that, I was able to avoid distractions.
After 1 hour, according to the steps, I took a 20-minute break which lasted about 4 hours because I ACCIDENTALLY slept.

The next day, I applied this technique again and completed my remaining course within an hour. This was a good and interesting experience. I started applying this technique in my daily routine, and with time I improved a bit in time management. I was able to complete some (but not all) of my tasks within the time limit. Also, I was able to minimize distractions. I’ll continue to use this method to increase my productivity and I’ll try to increase the time limit a little, to be able to focus on work for a longer period.
